Why Any Juice Is Better For Your Health Than No Juice
If you’re anything like me, you want the most potent juice available.
A lot has changed since I first started juicing religiously 10 years ago. Back then, very few people acknowledged that processing techniques affect the nutritional value of juice. People were convinced that a freshly made juice was the BEST way to to get your vitamins, but now we know that’s not exactly true…
When I started researching juicing methods, I had just been diagnosed with Melasma. It’s a skin pigmentation disorder caused by hormonal imbalance. I was uncomfortable and wanted swift, effective results to heal my body as fast as possible. I started drinking cold-pressed bottled juices, and was continuously asked why that was my drink of choice as opposed to a freshly made juice. The reason behind my choice stemmed from research done by Dr. Norman Walker, the pioneer of the famous Norwalk Press.
Walker’s research found that our bodies absorb five to ten times more nutrients with cold-pressed juices compared to any other juicing method—woah.
The cold pressing process minimizes contact with air and heat during production, which keeps the vitamins and minerals in tact by reducing the oxidation (or deterioration) of the juice. This perserves flavor, color, and nutritional content for days when kept in a cool refrigerated climate.
For years, many companies shied away from cold-pressing their bottled juices because it’s a long, tedious, expensive, and labor intensive process. Luckily for us, things have changed and now it’s more common to see cold-pressed juices stocking shelves of retailers—hello, even Starbucks jumped on the cold-pressing bandwagon for awhile!
how are we making your juices at Magic Mix?
We’re cold pressing our bottled juices and serving freshly made to order juices for those who visit our FiDi location.
I wanted to find the right juice extractor for made-to-order juices and I recently came across the perfect one—the Nutrifaster 450. The machine is made by a family owned & operated business that is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles by manufacturing juicers that provide fresh, pure, and natural nutrition. The family has been manufacturing commercial juicers in the Seattle, Washington area since 1994.
The Nutrifaster is a centrifugal juice extractor so it will juice fruits and vegetables in seconds and utilize a fast-spinning metal blade that spins against a mesh filter, separating juice from flesh via centrifugal force.
The juice and pulp are then separated into different containers. As I mentioned earlier, some will argue that because the fast-spinning metal blade generates heat, it could destroy some of the enzymes in the fruits and vegetables being juiced, but it’s one of the best options for a quick made-to-order juice bar.
For the cold-pressed bottled juices, Magic Mix uses a commercial hydraulic juice press (similar to the smaller home owned Norwalk Press), which first grinds down whole organic fruits and vegetables into a fine pulp; the pulp is then pressed in linen bags with 10 tons of pressure to produce the maximum amount of juice.
After each individual fruit and vegetable is pressed to recipe our mixologist starts mixing each juice and then we hand pour each bottle leaving you with six pounds of liquid nutrition in each bottle.
People can argue for and against the various juicing methods but one thing is certain drinking any kind of juice whether cold-pressed or extracted is better than drinking no juice whatsoever. My main advice would be to make sure your juices are made with organic ingredients.
For now stop by Magic Mix and pick up one of our new made-to-order juices (all named after Spice Girls) and maybe compare it to a cold-pressed juice with similar ingredients and decide for yourself which you prefer. Just like no two people are alike not everyone needs to like the same juicing method.
I’m just here to give you the option to make healthier choices just like I on some days enjoy cold-pressed better and on other days my new ‘Sporty Spice’ made to order juice!
